It's Sh*t Like This Blizzard... Sh*t Like This...

So today, like most days when I’m bored. I sat around thinking of what new Diablo 3 News I can find and what old Diablo 2 clues I could dig up that might end up in Diablo 3. I thought I could just load up the game and research a few things. But of course, I ended up being sucked in and started playing for… a while.
I began my adventure in the Rouge Encampment. I, being a veteran (playing since 1.02) remember the routine: Kill, Level up, and find better gear. If you don't play for a while, the routine becomes nothing more then a fleeting memory. But when you sit down for a few minutes and re-orientate yourself, the familiarity comes rushing back to you.
This time around however, even after playing sporadically throughout the years, I found a few things that have become the norm and unfortunately for me, a nuisance. For one: Spam and Advertising. Now, I might be going out on a limb here saying that these issues should be addressed, I know that the chances of that happening are equal to finding a Stone of Jordan in D2Classic. But still, the amount of spam in Diablo 2 is ridiculous. I had to take screenshots so you can get an idea of the foolery going on in D2. Yes, I know the game is ancient and this will probably never get fixed. But that got me thinking.
What if something like this becomes rampant in Diablo 3? I know Jay Wilson has stated that the economy of the game will be crafted in such a way that there will not be a need for outside intervention. But let’s be honest here, what successful game doesn’t have some form of cash-exchange for godly [insert-awesome-item-here]? And even when I exited a game and entered a chat room to become idle… Guess what happened next?
If you guessed Spam, pat yourself on the back. The Chat logs flooded with spam-bots sporadically. Well at this point you might be saying, “Just move to another channel and you won’t have to see it” Yea well, I tried that. Now instead of seeing spam in White text, I see it in green text. Because these Spam bots will just send spam and advertisement via /tell.
Another issue I found that seemed to be pretty common in Diablo 2 is the issue with creating games or joining games. This little fellow might be familiar:
Now, I have a pretty good, solid, stable connection. I know I’m not having connectivity issues with my provider, in fact I’d like to point out that I actually work for the ISP that services my home. So ruling out issues with connectivity, I can only presume the limitations of the Battle.net 1.0 is what’s causing an issue.
Enter Battle.net 2.0. Will Blizzards renovated platform be the Cure to these kinds of issues? One can only hope. I’m sure the surge of traffic Diablo 3 is set to receive will shatter its predecessor. I just hope some of these issues don’t carry over. Or if they do, Blizzard will have some form of power to moderate and control these kinds of abuses.
My time with Diablo 2 is always enjoyable. I just hope we won’t have to deal with this stuff with Diablo 3. What kinds of nuisances have you ran into in the world of Diablo?
